Mission Seven is to be conducted between 8th-18th October 2009. We hope the magic number of 100 is to be reached sometime during this mission. As it is going to be an important milestone the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka has offered to visit us at the hospital and grace the occasion by being the Chief Guests at a reception afterwards.
Our gratitude also goes to the guests of honour and other distinguished guests.
We enjoy and thrive on the tough challenges placed before us, I must emphasise that there is a human element within the team, when we have news that one of our patients is having difficulties, we all go quiet, each of us offering a prayer for recovery, and on loss we feel as sad, but we have to pick up and carry on.
On the lighter note, non-stop Sri Lankan classical music is the background music inside the theatre, when the surgeon carries out his tedious task, helps him to concentrate.
Most of the team enjoy curry for breakfast, egg hoppers amongst the favourite, our friends in Galle make our stay comfortable by taking us to visit a paddy field to participate in harvesting, a visit to a tea estate, and a visit to a private beach resort on our day off at the end of the mission when we have to be in the vicinity in case of an emergency call out.
